As you probably read in my first post, on Tuesday I helped to organise and launch the Foursquare Appreciation Society of GB & NI. The idea was inspired by the Pied Piper story – we would have a starting point and then I would go to the next location and tweet using a hashtag that attendees would be looking out for. The idea was to lead people to other bars using Foursquare and Twitter so that it was more fun than the usual networking events. At the same time, we attracted just under 50 people to a restaurant (Rosa’s), and two other bars in Soho (Kettner’s and The O Bar). We were helping local businesses, allowing like-minded people to come together and have fun, and doing something that hadn’t been done before. It was a win-win-win!
What was great was that we had people who had never used Foursquare before. They were being taught by the more experienced users and at the same time were learning about social media and how all of these sites were interconnected. What I loved was the fact that we had a concept but at the same time invited people to be creative. @richgregory noticed that a local pub was trending and that we could go over to join those people and get the Swarm badge. @jonchoo became the impromptu group photographer. @hardij provided the music when she played some wonderful piano pieces in Kettner’s.
This is the moment @simplybastow found out she had earned the Crunked badge!
